Santa Monica Bike Center named a PLATINUM Bicycle Friendly Business by the League of American Bicyclists

Washington, D.C. – April 22, 2014 – We are at an environmental turning point, and businesses across the country are addressing this by turning to one simple, cost-effective and fun tool: the bicycle.

On this Earth Day, the League of American Bicyclists recognized the Santa Monica Bike Center with a Platinum level Bicycle Friendly Business (BFB) award for leading America toward a greener future. With the announcement of 80 new and renewing BFBs today in 29 states and Washington, D.C., the Santa Monica Bike Center joins a cutting-edge group of more than 650 local businesses, government agencies and Fortune 500 companies across the United States that are transforming the American workplace.

“Visionary business leaders are recognizing the real-time and long term impact that a culture of bicycling can create,” said Andy Clarke, President of the League of American Bicyclists. “We applaud this new round of businesses for investing in a more sustainable future for the country and a healthier future for their employees.”

The Santa Monica Bike Center encourages community members to ride for the benefit of one’s health, spirit, and the planet. Since our inception in 2011, the Santa Monica Bike Center has provided commuter cycling amenities to over 300 commuter cyclists in the Los Angeles area. “We are committed to developing the Bike Friendly Business program within the Santa Monica community,” said Ron Durgin, General Manager of the Santa Monica Bike Center, “We see the value in this program for the entire community, and we hope to help other local businesses discover the benefits of becoming bike friendly.”

The community of Santa Monica is full of passionate and dedicated cycling and sustainability advocates determined to create a more bike-accessible, environmentally viable city that can lead the way in bike friendly efforts. We would like to congratulate the City of Santa Monica, Areal Restaurant, Crossroads School for the Arts and Sciences, and Co-opportunity Natural Foods for their Bike Friendly Business designations!
