The Bike Center has partnered with Sustainable Streets(opens in a new tab) to offer bicycle safety education and encouragement programs to get more people riding.
All bike education courses are taught by League of American Bicyclists certified League Cycling Instructors(opens in a new tab). The curriculum is designed and delivered by bicycling experts who not only teach the fundamentals, but also have a wealth of personal knowledge to share on all aspects of bicycling for transportation, work, fitness and fun. Whether you are an experienced commuter, an avid club rider, or have not ridden a bike in years, the courses we offer will help you increase your knowledge, skill and confidence when riding a bike in the Los Angeles area. ADULT LEARN TO RIDE BIKE CLASS ($40)
Sustainable Streets is pleased to offer learn-to-ride classes for adults. If you are an adult – age 18 and up – who wants to ride a
bike, but never learned how, then this is the class for you. If a class is sold out, you may email admin@sustainablestreets.org to be put on a wait list.
Classes take place on select Sundays the first session is from 9AM – 10:30AM, and the second session is from 10:30AM – 12PM
Class Information
- Class is located outdoors at the Santa Monica Bike Campus, 53 Ocean Park Blvd, Santa Monica CA 90405(opens in a new tab)
- Bikes and helmets included
- 8 students and 1-2 instructors per session
- Classes may be rescheduled or postponed in the event of weather emergencies or if minimum enrollment is not met

BASIC ROADSIDE REPAIR
Learn all you need to know about how to fix on-the-road issues with a basic roadside repair kit and how to diagnose more serious problems that can be fixed by a pro mechanic.
Classes take place on select Thursdays from 11:30 PM – 1:00 PM

CONFIDENT CITY CYCLING
Sustainable Streets is pleased to offer the Confident City Cycling class to help riders build confidence for riding a bicycle on city streets to any destination.
- Understand your rights and duties as a driver operating a bicycle safely and legally on public roadways
- Develop the ability to identify unsafe traffic situations and make decisions that can prevent crashes and collisions
- Learn how to perform a pre-ride bike safety check
Basic skills required:
- Completion of pre-requisite Smart Cycling online course from League of American Bicyclists(opens in a new tab)
- Ride in a straight line while scanning behind
- Control the bike when driving with one hand to scan and signal
- Willing to ride on city streets with traffic
- Adherence to all traffic laws
Class Information
- 4-hours of practical on-bike skill development: (handling & avoidance drills) + ride on city streets
- Participants will use their own bikes (rental bikes are available at The Bike Center(opens in a new tab) for additional fee)
- Enrollment is limited to 8 students (minimum enrollment 4)
- Classes may be rescheduled or postponed in the event of weather emergencies or if minimum enrollment is not met
- Classes will be held in either Santa Monica or Culver City, location info will be provided to confirmed participants
